Understanding the four major parameters of industrial camera lenses
Industrial lenses
Industrial lenses are lenses used in the field of industrial automation for imaging or photography, mainly for optical imaging.
Industrial lenses are essential core hardware in machine vision and have a critical impact on the quality of imaging. They can be divided into FA lenses (also known as CCTV lenses), zoom lenses (both manual and automatic), telecentric lenses (generally with object-side telecentric and bi-telecentric).
Basic parameters
1. Working distance (WD): refers to the distance from the bottom of the lens to the object surface.
The optical system of machine vision not only needs to consider the length of the camera lens group itself, but also needs to leave the working distance of the lens. If the space cannot meet the sum of these two, prism direction change or optical system re-customization should be considered immediately.
2. Focal length: The distance between the lens and the imaging plane.
3. Depth of Field (DOF): The range of depth that a lens can keep in focus.
The relationship between depth of field and focal length is: the longer the focal length, the shallower the depth of field; the shorter the focal length, the deeper the depth of field.
The relationship between depth of field and working distance is: the shorter the working distance, the closer the lens is to the object, the shallower the depth of field; on the contrary, the deeper the depth of field.
4. Field of View (FOV): Refers to the maximum range that the lens can see. Simply put, it is the area where the lens can perform detection work normally.
For large-scale detection, choosing a lens with a wide field of view can significantly reduce the cost of detection. However, when choosing, resolution must also be considered. A wide field of view can easily result in insufficient gray values at the edge of the field of view, so it is necessary to seek professional optical customization!
